Sat. and Sun., April 19 - 20, 2008
10 am - 4 pm each day

We bring this ancient art into the 21st century, replacing cement and mortar with the heat of a kiln and the power of kilnforming. This is a very approachable, low tech, and fun way to think about creating with glass. You can create beautiful pieces with rich colors and shading and complex and compelling imagery even if you have less-than-perfect glass cutting skills.

The shapes of the designs in a mosaic are made up of many smaller shapes – and the size and shape of those smaller pieces add more and more detail and information to the image. Students will make small test pieces in several color palettes and styles that will be fired overnight. The next day we will learn from our test samples and will design and complete our final piece.

Students should bring images that they are interested in translating into a glass mosaic and basic glass working tools.
