Introduction to Enameling – Glass on Metal

Friend and local artist Jackie Greeves, a long-time member of the Enamelist Gallery at the Torpedo Factory, will teach an exciting three-day workshop in  metal enameling,  the art of fusing glass to metal. The workshop will cover the entire enameling process from preparing the enamels and metals to the final finish, either shiny or matte. Students will be introduced to the tools and materials for traditional fine enameling, and have an opportunity to make samples of various color combinations that interest them.  They will make at least one cloisonné broach or pendant on copper and one on fine silver to better understand and appreciate the reactions and results of fused glass on both a base metal and a semiprecious metal.

No experience is needed, and all materials and the use of all tools needed are included in the tuition of $395.

Jackie Greeves is a classically trained artist who works in clay, enamels, and other metals. A recipient of a National Endowment Grant in clay, Jackie now focuses her interests on enameling and electroforming copper and glass. She has taught for many years at Montgomery College and for the Art League in Alexandria Va. You may see examples of her kilnformed glass work in the gallery at Vitrum Studio. Beginning level.
